Micasa Runs Innovative Show Home Competition To Inspire Students

At Micasa, we love to share our passion for interior design. That’s why we recently invited aspiring designers from Aylesbury High School to have a go at designing a luxury interior scheme for one of our client’s new build developments.

Our innovative competition saw the school’s Sixth Form students put forward creative designs for their ideal bedroom or living room based on the layout of Shanly Homes’ Akeman Mews scheme in Weston Turville, Buckinghamshire.

The brief for the task included drawing a 2D Furniture plan of the room, writing an inventory list and budget sheet, as well as preparing a furniture mood board and a fabric mood board.

Students presented their final designs on Friday 17th March to judges Paula Sardo, sales manager at Shanly Homes and Neha Mehta, senior design associate at Micasa. There were many fabulous and inspired submissions, but Isla Verney was chosen as the winner after putting forward a contemporary scheme that used a grey palette with metallic accents.

As well as £125 worth of prize vouchers, Isla’s reward will be to see her winning proposal brought to life in one of Shanly Homes’ show homes. Isla has also been given the opportunity to enhance her CV with a work experience placement at Micasa during the summer holidays. Runners up Keisha Pearce and Chantelle Lennard were also given vouchers for their efforts.

Commenting on the competition, Suzie Hartwell, Art Team Leader at Aylesbury High School, said: “The girls were really excited to be given a project brief outside of their usual art lessons. It enabled them to work on a different art discipline and develop work that saw a focus in industry based design. They all chose different themes and have created some exciting work collecting swatches and furniture as well as costing and looking at space and scale, then used Photoshop to develop their room layouts. I am really proud of their achievements, fitting this in alongside their usual A Level work is quite a task.”

Paula Sardo added: “We are always seeking fresh ideas for the interiors of our homes and are always on the lookout for the latest trends. This competition has provided students with an insight into the design and planning stages of housebuilding, we hope this will inspire them as upcoming designers to consider a career with the industry.

“The original plan was to recreate the winners’ design at Akeman Mews but having nearly sold out there, we are saving Isla’s designs for one of our new developments coming later this year. We can’t wait to work with her to bring her scheme to life,” she noted.

Finally, Neha Mehta said that, “Micasa was delighted with the students’ amazing designs and proud to be inspiring the next generation of interior designers.”
